Tanzanite was discovered over fifty years ago and since its discovery has grown to be one of the most popular blue gemstones on the market. Its popularity grew to the point where in 2002, tanzanite joined turquoise and zircon as the birthstones for December, a testament to its popularity seeing as the list, created in 1912, had been updated only one time prior to this in 1952. The appeal of the stone is tied to its vivid color, high clarity and potential for larger cut stones. This rare gem is pleochroic, meaning that it appears to be different colors when viewed from different directions. Some specimens can appear to be a distinct blue from one direction, and shift to a violet or even a flash of burgundy from other directions.
When a beautiful stone is found, the design evolves around it to truly showcase the beauty of what nature has created. The 7.59 carat tanzanite at the center of this ring is a deeper color of royal blue and has been cut and faceted to reveal the exquisiteness it possesses. Larger stones, such as this one, will have a richer looking color because the distance light travels through the stone has an influence on the perceived color. The center stone is framed by 2 larger diamonds at each side with a combined diamond weight of 0.85 carats. Round pave diamonds frame the top and bottom of the center stone as well as cascade down the sides of the shank, which transforms from a split shank to a single shank. The 62 pave diamonds grace the surface of the ring and have a combined weight of 0.89 carats.
