What is Morganite?

August 19, 2015

Morganite, a gemstone, is a member of the Beryl Family is Pink, Orange or Purple Beryl, which is the same species as Emerald. Beryls are beryllium silicates rich in minerals. Beryl has good hardness being 7.5 to 8 on the Mohs Scale.

Pink Beryl has been around for millions of years, but only became known as Morganite, through the suggestion of Gemologist G.F. Kunz in 1911. It was named in honor of famous financier and Gem stone collector J.P. Morgan.

Many of the largest and most intensely colored Morganite stones are found in Madagascar and Brazil.

Morganite is becoming increasingly more popular as of late and looks especially pretty set in rose gold.  Because the color ranges from a very pale pink to a deeper pink, some stones can make excellent center stones for engagement rings.

Many people have not heard about Morganite. Hubert uses Morganite Gems in necklaces, pendants, earrings and rings. See below for examples of some of our current designs and contact us about our custom design services for Morganite and other gem stones: relations@hubertgem.com.
